TEDCO's role is to be Maryland's leading source of funding for early-stage, technology-based business; to provide other business assistance to entrepreneurs throughout the State; and to foster technology transfer and commercialization from the State’s universities and Federal labs. The Maryland Venture Fund (“MVF” or the “Fund”) is an evergreen venture capital fund dedicated to investing in and growing the next generation of outstanding, technology-based businesses in Maryland. MVF collaborates with exceptional entrepreneurs and top-tier investment partners to help build sustainable, high-growth companies in Maryland. Assets under management total more than $100 million including direct investments and a Fund of Funds portfolio.


    One-year Investment Analyst Fellowship

    This position is a part of the TEDCO investment team that oversees the operations and execution of the Social Impact, Seed, and Maryland Venture Funds. The responsibilities of this role are to provide support throughout the data gathering, investment diligence process and portfolio management activities. This role is tasked with completing initial diligence for new investment opportunities, performing financial and data analytics for current portfolio companies, and maintaining the integrity of software systems used by the investment team.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    1. Collect financial and legislative reporting.
    2. Maintain Salesforce and other internal reporting systems with up-to-date and accurate applicants and portfolio company information.
    3. Synthesize and analyze data from information systems by using business intelligence and reporting software.
    4. Assist with maintenance of the investment ledger, including liaising with internal and external partners as necessary.
    5. Assist with qualification and analysis of new investment opportunities.
    6. Contribute to company-specific analyses due diligence with quantitative/qualitative research on prospective new investments including:
      1. Financial & business modeling
      2. Market & customer sizing & analyses
      3. Customer, market, investor, stakeholder, and other interviews
    7. Produce investment related memoranda as required by investment team.
    8. Produce analysis, including projections, sensitivities, and returns.
    9. Organize and produce periodic reporting materials for internal and external stakeholders.
    10. Provide routine value add support and portfolio maintenance as directed.
    11. Attend pitch meetings with the investment team and support other internal meetings as needed.
    12. Represent TEDCO at local tech/VC events, conferences, and networking activities.


    • A Bachelor’s degree in a Business, Finance or a related tech/biotech field
    • 0 to 2 years of experience in Venture Capital, Investment Banking, Consulting or Finance
      • Relevant internship experience will be considered

    Knowledge, Skills and Experience

    1. Strong affinity for and referenceable examples of alignment with TEDCO’s mission, vision, and values.
    2. Familiarity with and demonstrated interest in the startup ecosystem.
    3. Strong analytical skills paired with ability to synthesize information into written communications
    4. An understanding of the venture capital industry and deal mechanics including cap tables and waterfall analyses.
    5. Demonstrated proficiency with Excel and complex formulas; financial modeling experience preferred.
    6. Team player with excellent interpersonal skills who can deliver on projects in a self-directed way.
    7. Strong project management and quantitative skills, excellent communication & collaboration capabilities.
    8. High attention to detail and accountability with proven ability to manage multiple tasks while meeting deadlines.
    9. Preference for working in a fast-paced environment in which a commercial perspective on technical ideas are all highly valued.
    10. Ability to travel within Maryland up to 20%

    Supervisory Responsibility

    This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

    Work Environment

    This job will commence as remote but will transition to hybrid scheduling with required time in office. Our office is in the Columbia Gateway Business Park, two miles from i95 access. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

      Compensation commensurate with experience.
